Tahira Malik, MD

Tahira Malik, MD, is a board-certified pediatrician who has also earned board eligibility in pediatric nephrology (kidney care). She provides the full spectrum of primary care, with an emphasis on preventive medicine.

Dr. Malik's practice covers physical and mental health ranging from newborns to young adults. While she highly enjoys taking care of newborns and following them through teenage years and beyond, she also feels very comfortable diagnosing and managing several mental health issues which she is seeing a lot more of since the COVID-19 pandemic and related shutdown and social distancing came into effect.

She considers parents as her partners in patient care. "I believe strongly in parents' instincts and use that as an important tool to manage my patients," she says. If a child has a condition that needs to be watched closely, she does not hesitate to give parents direct access to her pager number, so they can stay in close contact after office hours. When a patient needs to be hospitalized, she herself provides in-hospital care.

Providing dedicated care at El Camino Health, Dr. Malik is excited about being a pediatrician every day. "An overwhelming majority of pediatric patients bounce back fast from their illnesses. This phenomenon acts as an infusion of energy and happiness," she says.

Outside her practice, Dr. Malik enjoys spending time with family and friends, traveling, volunteering on hospital committees and learning languages. She's fluent in English, Hindi, Punjabi and Urdu, and is conversant in Spanish.
