How should I prepare for my imaging test?
Your doctor will give you instructions on how to prepare for your specific test. Your preparations may include steps such as avoiding certain foods, or all food and drink, for a prescribed time before your test. Your instructions may also specify how to dress for a specific test. Women should tell the doctor or technologist if there’s a chance they might be pregnant.
When will my doctor get my test results?
In most cases, we report your test results to your doctor within 24 to 48 hours.
How do I get copies of my test results?
The best way to get your results is from the doctor who ordered your test. He or she will be able to explain the results and how they relate to your overall medical situation.
If you want to receive your test results directly, ask your doctor to send a written authorization to imaging or bring one with you to your test. You can also ask one of our imaging team members to help you with the release-of-information process. If you’d like to have copies sent to another doctor, our imaging staff will arrange it.
Can I find out what my tests will cost before they are performed?
Although we don’t have information about what your insurance company will pay for a particular service, we can tell you our full retail price and the self-pay discount fees. Registered self-pay patients can receive a 75 percent discount off retail charges for tests performed in our imaging services department if they pay in full within 30 days with cash or credit card. Why did I receive more than one bill for one procedure?
El Camino Health bills for the technical portion of your examination (room time, technologists, films, equipment, etc.). Silicon Valley Diagnostic Imaging sends a separate bill for reading and interpreting your examination. This service includes a written report for your doctor and a consultation, as needed. Will my insurance cover my tests?
El Camino Health’s imaging services department accepts most insurance carriers. We recommend you contact your insurance carrier to confirm what portion of charges they’ll cover.
