Men’s Pelvic Health

Our highly trained urologists and expert staff excel at the treatment of pelvic floor disorders, providing education, therapy and management of complex pelvic issues.

Risk Factors for Kidney Stones | El Camino Health

The pelvic floor refers to the muscles, ligaments, connective tissues and nerves that support and help pelvic organs function. In men, the pelvic floor includes the muscles, tissues and nerves that support the bladder, rectum and other pelvic organs.

For many people, the pelvic floor does not work as well as it should. As we get older, pelvic health becomes increasingly important. Whatever your age, there’s no need to endure disorders like incontinence, constipation or abdominal or pelvic pain. They are highly treatable.

How We Can Help

El Camino Health is known regionally for their advanced ability to diagnose and treat the complex problems of male urology, especially problems of the prostate. But male pelvic health goes beyond prostate problems.

Men have specific conditions related to the low back and pelvic region that can affect their overall health. Weak muscles, poor postural habits, surgery or trauma can cause imbalance and dysfunction in the muscles of the pelvic floor. Common conditions include:

  • Bladder and/or bowel dysfunctions, like incontinence and retention.
  • Pelvic pain, including low back, hip and groin pain.
  • Post-surgical pain/dysfunction, such as post-prostatectomy pain and urinary difficulties.

The good news is, these conditions can often be treated with physical therapy customized to your individual needs. El Camino Health has a dedicated staff of physical therapists specializing in pelvic health for men and women.

Communication with your doctor and other care providers is an integral part of our approach. After a thorough evaluation and diagnosis by your doctor, your treatments are one-on-one with your therapist in a private treatment room or in our gym.

Common treatment techniques include manual therapy, posture correction, core muscle strengthening and pain reducing strategies. Treatment can also include the re-education of the muscles of the pelvic floor using biofeedback and electrical stimulation to contract and release them.

Our goal is to empower you with education so you have a better understanding of your symptoms, and an individualized program to increase strength and wellness.
