The 4th Trimester Class engages new parents and their partners/support persons in a discussion about mental health after the birth of a baby. The focus of the class will be to support perinatal women and their partners/support persons and provide education that will highlight healthy adjustment as mothers transition to what is known as the 4th trimester or the period after birth of a baby. This class is ideal for individuals who are preparing for the birth of a child but could also be helpful for anyone who has recently welcomed a baby to their life.
The class will be facilitated by a Licensed Mental Health Clinician who is part of our Maternal Outreach Mood Services (MOMS) Program team at the Scrivner Center for Mental Health & Addiction Services department at El Camino Health. This 90 minute class will be facilitated through zoom and will cover the following topics:
- Emotional changes in the first three months after birth of a child
- Balancing the needs of the baby while making time for self-care
- Information on the baby blues and perinatal mental health conditions
- Review of recommendations to foster healthy adjustment
