El Camino Health Named One of the World's Best Hospitals for 2022 by Newsweek

Mountain View, CA — March 29, 2022 — El Camino Health's Mountain View hospital was named one of the World's Best Hospitals for 2022 by Newsweek and Statista. Hospitals included in the ranking were evaluated based on recommendations from peers, patient experience, and medical key performance indicators, such as quality of treatment. A global board of renowned experts validated the ranking with El Camino Health placing number one among non-academic medical centers in the San Francisco Bay Area and among the top 100 hospitals in the United States.

"It is an honor for El Camino Health to be recognized as one of the best hospitals in the world," said Dan Woods, CEO of El Camino Health. "While we are a community-based healthcare system, our culture of safety, commitment to advancing care, and better patient outcomes has made an impact in our category beyond Santa Clara County."

The fourth edition of Newsweek's ranking lists the best hospitals in 27 countries based on multiple comparability factors, such as standard of living, life expectancy, population, number of hospitals, and data availability. The countries include the United States of America, Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Columbia, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Mexico, Netherlands, Norway, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Korea, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and United Kingdom. As hospitals around the world continue to battle the COVID-19 pandemic, the world's top hospitals have learned to adapt to new challenges quickly and improvise on the fly.

"What has set the world's leading hospitals apart is their continued ability to deliver the highest-quality patient care and conduct critical medical research even as they focused on battling COVID," said Nancy Cooper, global editor in chief of Newsweek.

In El Camino Health's case, this includes being the first in the world to enroll a patient in a study for the intravenous precursor to Paxlovid, the first oral antiviral COVID-19 treatment approved by the Food and Drug Administration.

This year, Newsweek and Statista ranked more than 2,200 hospitals around the world, with 420 from the U.S., including El Camino Health. The goal of the study is to provide the best-data based comparison of hospital reputation and performance across countries. The full list of recipients appears in Newsweek online and at newsstands nationwide.
