Children’s Surgical Care

Children’s bodies aren’t just smaller versions of adult bodies. They have special needs. Because they’re still growing and developing, children may require a different surgical approach. They may react differently to anesthesia, medication and even intravenous fluids. And, children are more likely to be anxious and frightened, so our staff is sensitive to the needs of children and parents.

El Camino Health provides general and orthopedic pediatric surgery, performed by surgeons who are specially trained and experienced in children’s surgery. We understand how stressful surgery can be for children and their families, so we make sure you and your child know what to expect. We’ll answer your questions about the surgery, why it’s needed, and what to expect during recovery.

Your child’s safety, comfort and well-being are of the utmost importance to us. We’re committed to providing the best possible experience for you and your child.

Pediatric General Surgery

General surgery focuses mainly on the abdominal organs and is used to treat a wide range of conditions that can affect children, such as appendicitis or stomach and intestinal problems. Many surgeries, such as removal of the appendix or gallbladder, can often be performed using minimally invasive techniques that don’t require large incisions.

Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery

Orthopedic surgery treats conditions and injuries of the musculoskeletal system, including the bones, joints, ligaments, tendons, muscles and nerves. Because children’s bodies are still growing, their bodies respond differently to orthopedic disorders and injuries, as well as treatment.

Our orthopedic surgeons will design a treatment plan to help your child recover and return to the activities he or she enjoys. They provide expert care for:

  • Broken bones and other traumatic injuries.
  • Limb and spinal deformities, such as scoliosis or leg-length differences.
  • Bone or joint infections and tumors.
