When to Go to OB Emergency Care
OB emergency care, a specialized unit with services at both Mountain View and Los Gatos hospitals, sees any patient with pregnancy-related concerns after 16 weeks gestation. We care for your conditions and symptoms including:
- Bleeding or cramping
- Contractions
- Membrane rupture (water breaking)
- Nausea or vomiting
- Symptoms of preeclampsia
- Urinary problems
Head to the emergency department right away for non-pregnancy-related symptoms including chest pain, shortness of breath trauma and other severe complications. You can also go to the emergency department for any emergencies before 16 weeks gestation. Rest assured that even if you go to the emergency department while pregnant, a nurse from labor and delivery will be called in to check your baby’s heart rate and run any other tests or treatments as needed. Your emergency medicine physician partners closely with hospitalists and other providers to offer the best care for you and your baby.
OB Emergency Services
Both Mountain View Hospital and Los Gatos Hospital offer OB emergency care staffed by 24/7 in-house OB hospitalists. These specialists offer services including:
- Fetal heart rate monitoring
- Labor checks
- Laboratory testing
- Physical assessments
- Special testing for ruptured membranes and preterm labor
- Ultrasounds and other imaging
- Other specialist services including radiology, cardiology, hematology and more
