Comprehensive Support for Your Pregnancy

Your care team may include a multidisciplinary group of providers such as:

  • Obstetricians and OB hospitalists
  • Anesthesiologists
  • Dieticians
  • Laboratory personnel
  • Lactation specialists
  • Maternal-fetal medicine specialists
  • Nurses, including clinical nurse specialists
  • OB technologists
  • Pediatricians
  • Pharmacists (including a dedicated NICU pharmacist)

This group works together to coordinate complex care for you, including reviewing high-risk pregnancies weekly to update your care plan before you arrive at the hospital. We are also happy to connect you with a midwife to be your primary care provider during your pregnancy journey or a doula for additional support at your request.

Certified Nurse-Midwives

The birth of your baby is a deeply personal experience. When you partner with an El Camino Health nurse-midwife, you'll work together to develop a birth plan that's both safe and customized to your preferences. Your midwife will guide you through pregnancy and delivery in a way that respects your choices.

El Camino Health's certified nurse-midwives are experienced graduates of nurse-midwifery education programs accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education (ACME). They have been specialty-trained in women’s health and have passed a national certification exam that meets strict requirements set by state and national health agencies.

Our midwives are focused on maintaining the best conditions possible and a safe, healthy outcome for you and your baby.

As members of the El Camino Health care team, our midwives maintain a close relationship with obstetricians, maternal-fetal medicine specialists and other clinicians to ensure that a specialist is available around the clock if complications arise.

Doulas & Labor Support

You may choose to work with a doula who can offer you support like breathing techniques and labor positions to help move your labor along.

Though doulas are not employed by El Camino Health and do not provide medical advice, we’ve had many doulas provide labor support at our hospitals. If you’re interested in working with a doula, view our doula directory and contact them directly.
