Signs & Symptoms

There are a range of hematology conditions that have a variety of symptoms. Make sure you talk to your regular primary care provider, OB/GYN or midwife, or specialist if you have any concerns about bleeding, or you’re experiencing these symptoms:

  • Blood in the urine or stool
  • Bruising easily or bruises that don’t heal
  • Dizziness
  • Excessive bleeding
  • Excessive tiredness or other symptoms of anemia
  • Heavy menstrual periods
  • Internal bleeding
  • Shortness of breath

Your healthcare provider may:

  • Recommend blood tests to make sure your blood has normal levels of red blood cells, white blood cells and platelets.
  • Refer you to a hematologist, especially if you are pregnant or have other risk factors for a hematology condition, such as anemia. A hematologist can also make sure you are safe for surgery.
