The American Diabetes Association hosted its annual State of Diabetes event on Nov. 14. El Camino Health Chief Medical Officer Mark Adams, MD, participated in a panel discussion about ways to live with diabetes and make diabetes and obesity care more accessible.
El Camino Health was honored to participate in the American Diabetes Association (ADA) State of Diabetes event on Friday, November 14, 2025, at De Anza College in Cupertino, California.
As part of the event, Mark Adams, MD, vascular surgeon and chief medical officer at El Camino Health, participated in a panel discussion titled “Addressing Obesity and Diabetes: Strategies for Healthier Lives and Lower Costs”. Panelists shared information about new diabetes treatments, lifestyle changes, and ways to make diabetes and obesity care more accessible.

“We know there are strong links between obesity and diabetes, and that both are major health concerns,” says Dr. Adams. “But we don’t always factor in the impact of social determinants of health, like food access, income and environment. The ADA panel discussion included payers, employers and community stakeholders, who, together, can increase access to treatments while addressing costs.”
In addition to hearing from panel experts, attendees learned about the latest data on obesity, diabetes care and prevention. They also gained insights from the ADA’s state-based survey to address community health needs and received a toolkit with solutions for employers and community members.
Diabetes and obesity continue to be top health needs in our community, as identified in El Camino Health’s fiscal year 2026 Implementation Strategy Report and Community Benefit Plan. Overall, this event helped us connect, learn and take action toward prevention and management.
