In March, El Camino Health attended County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga’s Women’s History Month Luncheon as an event sponsor. Learn about El Camino Health’s very own Carol Somersille, MD, who received the Liz Kniss Healthcare Champion Award.
El Camino Health sponsored and attended County Supervisor Margaret Abe-Koga’s Women’s History Month Luncheon in March, which honored outstanding women whose leadership, advocacy and community impact uplift Santa Clara County. The luncheon included award presentations, community-curated music and opportunities for connection.
At the event, residents, nonprofit partners, civic leaders and past honorees came together to celebrate award recipients across five categories:
- The Margaret Abe-Koga Community Impact Award
- The Liz Kniss Healthcare Champion Award
- The Dianne McKenna Shield of Hope Award
- The Becky Morgan Visionary Award
- The Gerry Steinberg Justice in Action Award
This year, Carol Somersille, MD, OB-GYN at El Camino Health and vice chair of El Camino Healthcare District, received the Liz Kniss Healthcare Champion Award, along with recognition from County Supervisor Abe-Koga. Deanna Dudley, El Camino Health’s chief human resources officer, presented the award, sharing ways Dr. Somersille has reshaped how patients experience the healthcare system.
At El Camino Health, Dr. Somersille has been a steadfast champion for addressing the social determinants of health that affect our quality-of-life outcomes and risks. She recognizes that true health equity requires meeting people’s needs both inside and outside the hospital. Her vision for a healthcare system rooted in community partnership, prevention and dignity embodies the spirit of service that Liz Kniss championed throughout her life.
Congratulations to Dr. Somerville and other award recipients.
