December 15, 2025 - El Camino Health is recognized by the College of Healthcare Management Executives, known as CHIME, as one of 18 organizations to achieve the highest level of digital health excellence in the 2025 Digital Health Most Wired Survey.
"Most Wired is an industry standard in measuring technology advancement, and we are honored to receive this recognition for El Camino Health," said Deb Muro, Chief Information Officer, BSN, MS, CHCIO, at El Camino Health. "This achievement was supported by the El Camino Foundation and Innovation Program which enabled improvements in advanced technologies such as Artificial Intelligence."
Highest Achievement in Healthcare Technology Excellence
CHIME is the leading professional organization for digital health leaders. The highest achievement award in an internationally-recognized assessment of healthcare technology excellence is a Level 10 designation. Of 50,000 organizations surveyed, a total of 18 organizations achieved the Level 10 status, surpassing rigorous performance standards and setting a new benchmark for digital healthcare innovation and leadership.
The survey evaluates the adoption maturity, outcomes and value of technology integration across healthcare organizations at all stages of digital maturity – from early phase digitization to advanced transformation.
Artificial Intelligence
Artificial intelligence (AI) is among the innovations in the health technology landscape and a significant addition to this year's evaluation. El Camino Health uses AI in a number of ways to personalize patient care and increase access to care.
Artificial intelligence is used in radiology to generate report impressions in a matter of seconds saving valuable time for radiologists. Additionally, acute abnormalities, including findings not visible to the human eye, are identified with life threatening cases prioritized to expedite patient treatment and care.
AI helps doctors focus on patients during appointments by transcribing important medical information from the patient-doctor interaction into the patient medical record which is reviewed and approved by the physician. Automating documentation creates time for patient care while reducing the time clinicians spend on paperwork.
Improved Patient Electronic Health Records
El Camino Health was an early innovator and continues its track record of innovation in electronic patient records. In the late 1960s, it partnered with Lockheed Martin to develop one of the first electronic health records. Today, El Camino Health continues to improve electronic patient medical record systems to improve the patient healthcare experience.
- Implementation of a diagnostic image report which includes patient-friendly language and illustrations accessible to patient in their medical record.
- Added a Spanish-language option with additional languages planned.
- Appointment scheduling enhancements to personalize and improve patient access to care.
El Camino Health IT in Distinguished Company
Eighteen healthcare organizations achieved Level 10 distinction—the highest honor awarded in the 2025 CHIME Digital Health Most Wired survey. The Digital Health Most Wired survey serves as a comprehensive evaluation and digital maturity report card for healthcare organizations across the globe. The survey began at the American Hospital Association and transitioned to CHIME for the additional expertise in measuring digital capabilities. Healthcare systems that participate in the survey must demonstrate its implementation of the right IT processes that serve the needs of the organization and the people. The evaluation process includes submitting case studies and an on-site review by IT and operations experts.
"This year's survey introduced a modernized methodology designed to reflect the realities and rapid acceleration of today’s health technology landscape. The updated scoring framework now includes expanded evaluations of innovation including AI adoption, virtual care programs, digital pathology, cybersecurity capabilities, climate resilience, and the emergence of new care delivery models in 2025 and beyond,” according to CHIME's designation.
CHIME formally recognized these distinguished Level 10 honorees during the CHIME25 Fall Forum in San Antonio, TX.
