El Camino Hospital Joins Cancer Support Community in Celebrating Grand Opening of New Mountain View Facility

Mountain View, CA - June 3, 2010 - El Camino Hospital is joining Cancer Support Community of Silicon Valley in celebrating the grand opening of the organization's new facility on North Whisman Road in Mountain View. The event is Saturday, June 5 from noon to 5 p.m.

Cancer Support Community, formerly known as the Wellness Community of Silicon Valley, is a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping cancer victims and their families through medical, legal, financial and other forms of support. Anyone affected by cancer is welcome, and all assistance is free to those who need it. El Camino Hospital is a major sponsor of the group.

"We are pleased to be able to lend our support to Cancer Support Community," said Cecile Currier, El Camino Hospital's vice president of corporate and community health services. Added Dr. Shyamali Singhal, medical director of the hospital's Cancer Center: "For many years Cancer Support Community has been essential in helping cancer sufferers and their families manage with this debilitating, yet all too common, disease."

Also Saturday, Cancer Support Community will present an educational program addressing the psychological impact to cancer patients due to today's complicated insurance system--and to the debt such patients are often forced to take on. "Coping with the Cost of Care," featuring guest speakers Tiffany Sirikulvadhana and Todd Bergstrom, begins at 2 p.m. following the grand opening festivities.

"I could not be more thrilled to be able to bring the services of the Cancer Support Community to Silicon Valley," said organizer Dana Kaye. "Major recognition belongs to the volunteers who have worked endlessly to open this facility along with Cadence and El Camino Hospital."

With this weekend's grand opening, the Cancer Support Community's new local facility takes its place among 44 affiliates in the U.S. and three internationally. The new facility is located at 455 N. Whisman Drive, Suite 300, Mountain View. Saturday's event begins with a ribbon cutting featuring food and music from 12-1:30 p.m. The educational program follows from 2-5 p.m. Those interested in registering can do so by calling 650-968-5000. For members of the media interested in attending, please RSVP to Dana Kaye at the same number.
