Breast Cancer Awareness Month Helps Address Chronic Health Needs

This October, we honored Breast Cancer Awareness Month by learning more about this condition and supporting breast cancer research and programs. Discover easy ways to continue to protect your breast health and the health needs of others.

October was Breast Cancer Awareness Month, an important opportunity to promote regular screenings and help reduce the risk of breast cancer, which affects 2.3 million women worldwide. While pink campaigns raise awareness, it’s equally important to focus on education, prevention, early detection and continued research.

Chronic health conditions, including cancers, continue to be among the leading causes of death in Santa Clara County. El Camino Health, together with many of our Community Benefit partners, remains committed to addressing these ongoing health needs. Read about our long-standing efforts in the fiscal year 2026 Implementation Strategy Report and Community Benefit Plan.

Here are a few ways to honor Breast Cancer Awareness Month:

  • Learn something new about breast cancer.
  • Schedule your next mammogram if you are a woman age 40 or older, or if you have a higher risk.
  • Examine your personal risk for breast cancer.
  • Give yourself a breast exam.
  • Reach out to someone who is living with or has survived breast cancer.
  • Support breast cancer research and programs that help people living with breast cancer, such as our Community Benefit partner Cancer CAREpoint, featured in this issue. Cancer CAREpoint offers free, professional counseling for patients, caregivers and survivors.
