Stress Awareness Month Highlights Healthy Ways to Cope

Stress Awareness Month Highlights Healthy Ways to Cope

April is National Stress Awareness Month, a time set aside to help us focus on healthy ways to deal with stress to prevent adverse effects and enjoy our lives.

Stress affects us mentally and physically, and there’s no getting around it. How you handle it can make all the difference. April is National Stress Awareness Month, a time that’s set aside to help us focus on healthy ways to deal with stress so we can prevent adverse effects. Stress management is an important part of any plan to improve health and life, and El Camino Health and many of our Community Benefit partners have made it part of their care and community outreach.

For instance, Almaden Valley Counseling Service, featured in this issue, provides counseling to at-risk youth at 30 area schools. Also spotlighted in this issue, Playworks’ partnership with the Campbell Union School District helps ensure children get a healthy break for unstructured play during recess, with guidance from coaches and other Playworks staff.

Stress can lead to increased productivity and help us reach goals — but it can also cause us to act in ways that hurt ourselves and those around us. Let this month remind us that managing stress and finding healthy ways to relax is important for all the people we serve — and for ourselves as well.
