February Health Tips: How to stay heart healthy

Whether you have 1 minute to spare, or 30, find ways to stay heart healthy and happy.

1-Minute Tip: Check your pulse: Monitor your heart rate (either through the wrist or neck or your hand over your heart). Take a deep breath and take a moment to be calm.

5-Minute Tip: Eat a handful of carrots: One way to stay heart healthy is to maintain cholesterol levels. Eating more vegetables and other plant-based foods has been proven to lower high cholesterol.

15-Minute Tip: Call a friend: If you’re feeling stressed, it could elevate your heart rate. Panic and anxiety attacks are often met with a racing heartbeat. If you encounter these symptoms, or are feeling stressed, try calling a close friend or family member to talk through things.

30-Minute Tip: Listen to a soothing podcast or song: Podcasts not only engage your mind, but can also lower stress levels. Consider it another form of meditation. Depending on the type of podcast you listen to, many can soothe and calm your mind and heart.
