Late Summer Health Tips

July 2019 Health Tips

The beginning of a new school year is the perfect opportunity for people of any age to hit the reset button and establish healthier habits.

Read these quick tips for a healthier lifestyle this fall:

1-Minute Tip: Squeeze a drop or two of eucalyptus or peppermint oil (or another scent that appeals to you) onto the shower floor just before you finish up. The steam will help disperse the uplifting scent and give you a little kick of energy to start your day off right.

5-Minute Tip: Consider your posture. With the amount of time most humans spend sitting down, bad posture can lead to serious back problems over time. Set reminders so you’ll think about your posture a few times a day. As you practice adjusting your posture throughout the day, it will eventually become second-nature.

15-Minute Tip: Prepare an on-the-go breakfast. During the hectic morning rush, it can be tempting to speed out the door in the morning without eating a nutritious breakfast. Spend a few minutes the night before planning and prepping an easy breakfast that you can make in just a minute or two (or even grab and go in a pinch) in the morning. And remember that a balanced breakfast is just as important for you as it is for your kids!

30-Minute Tip: Stop at a farmer’s market to pick up some delicious, nutritious and local produce. August is peak season for stone fruit, and most melons are at their most flavorful right now. Check with the grower to ensure no pesticides have been used, and then select a variety for your family to enjoy. A perfectly ripe peach or plum makes a perfect dessert or after school snack!
