Take a refresher course on staying healthy with these easy tips.
1-Minute Tip: Apply sunscreen before heading out the door. As the temperatures dip a bit in the fall, it’s easier to skip out on this important habit. Make sunscreen a part of your routine year round to reduce your risk of melanoma – and premature aging!
5-Minute Tip: Clean out your refrigerator. Take a few minutes to clear up some space – and avoid consuming any expired foods by taking a quick inventory now and tossing anything that’s past it’s prime. Look at the expiration dates on cartons of creamer, bottles of salad dressing, and other condiments that you don’t use regularly. They don’t keep forever!
15-Minute Tip: Scour the farmer’s market or the produce section at your grocery store for some vibrantly colored fall vegetables. Beets, squash, pumpkin and sweet potatoes aren’t just delicious, they’re also chock full of vitamins, fiber, and anti-oxidants. Find a new recipe or two and introduce your family to the bounty of vegetables that are at their peak right now.
30-Minute Tip: Review your family’s vaccination history and make sure everybody is up-to-date. This is also a perfect time to schedule your annual flu shot. Check your supply of over-the-counter medicines you may need for the upcoming cold and flu season, and replace anything that may be expired.
