Ashley’s Story
Ashley was so excited to learn she was expecting twins. She delivered early at 26 weeks and her children received the expert care they needed in the El Camino Health NICU. Today, she has three toddlers and is loving the small moments that make life so special.
What to Expect During Your NICU Stay
You deserve to feel close to your baby while they’re in the NICU. We are here to help make this experience easier for you. Our multidisciplinary team of neonatologists collaborate with NICU nurses, dieticians, physical and occupational therapists, lactation consultants and dedicated pharmacists to create a personalized care plan for your baby. We keep you informed at every step and help you stay involved in their care.
We want you to be able to bond with your baby during their stay and encourage you to hold, touch and talk to them whenever possible. You’ll also have access to our Angel Eye program, so you can see your baby at any time, from anywhere.
To ease your family’s experience, we offer:
- Banked breastmilk and a milk kitchen to tailor milk for your baby
- Breastfeeding support with international board-certified lactation consultants (IBCLC)
- Community resources to help your family
- Emotional support, including through the NICU parent mental health support program
- Help navigating insurance questions
- Ongoing care support, including finding equipment for home care after you leave the hospital
